Our washing machines are some of the most widely used appliances in our homes, which can make it a huge pain when they start to malfunction or don't work the way they used to. Fortunately for you, our appliance repair experts at Repair Expert Appliance Repair are here to help! In this blog post, we will discuss some of the top common household washing machine problems and how you can fix them. Read on to learn more!
It Won’t Turn On :
If your washing machine is not responding when you turn it on, it can be for a variety of reasons. While these reasons can be easy to fix, some of them may require a more serious repair. Getting started, make sure your washer is getting power. Sometimes, especially if it was not positioned correctly or is knocked over frequently, your washing machine may not be receiving power. You can use a multimeter to check the output voltage. You will also want to make sure your home electrical supply is working properly. Check your home's electrical panel to see if any of the circuit breakers have tripped. If everything seems to be working fine, it may not be the washing machine. We recommend that you contact a qualified electrician to help you replace the outlet.
It may not turn on either due to engine overheating. If it overheats, most washers will shut down on their own to allow the machine to cool down before it restarts. This may not be a problem if it has only happened a few times, but if you notice that during each wash cycle the motor shuts down, you may need to replace the machine. Our repair experts can help you find the most efficient way to repair or replace your machine.
It Won’t Drain :
Drainage problems can range from a simple clog to the need to replace the drain hose. Most of the time, your drain hose may be clogged and it is the reason why the washing machine is not draining properly. You can remove the hose and visually inspect it for obstructions. You'll also want to check the drain hose for kinks or lint filters. Your drain pump may also be stuck or have other problems. Another possibility is that the bearings have become stuck in the pump or have been stuck by a foreign object. Many of us tend to put things in our pockets that we can't get out before washing, like pens, coins, and other small items. Even a small sock can cause a jam. It may also be due to the impeller blades. Usually a new pump will help fix most drainage problems, but always contact your local technician to be sure!
The Spin Cycle Isn’t Working :
First, make sure your washer is not on the "soak" cycle. This may seem like a
no-brainer, but most of us just turn on the washing machine without checking the settings, so if someone before putting it on a different
cycle, make sure it's set the way you want it. Make sure your washing machine is not overloaded with clothes either. If it's too large a
load, the washer will become unbalanced and won't spin properly. Remember to look for any foreign objects lodged in the drain pump.
Sometimes you will hear a humming noise when the washing machine is full of water, and this is the problem. The belts on your machine may
also be torn or show signs of wear.
It’s Leaking Water :
This can be a real disaster and may mean that your washing machine needs to be replaced entirely, but it can also be a simple solution! Check the drain hose if your washing machine is leaking only during the spin cycle. Make sure the hose is in safe condition and the hose is not kinked, cracked, or damaged. Check your water inlet valve for leaks. Rust and other mineral deposits may be developing inside the valve, or it may be old and in need of replacement. You may also be using too much detergent. Too much detergent will cause the suds to spill over, making it look like you have a leak when in reality you just have a heavy pour.
